Ruby Slippers leads the Small Theatre Jessie Nominations with 8!

It’s always best to be recognized by your peers, and Ruby Slippers Theatre is thrilled to wrap up it’s 20th Anniversary Season leading the Small Theatre nominations with an exciting 8 Jessie Richardson Award nominations – including Outstanding Production – for the English language World Premiere Production of Serge Boucher’s LIFE SAVERS, translated by Shelley Tepperman.

As France, the outcast sister, Colleen Wheeler is nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Lead Role. Kevin McNulty, as father Robert, is nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, while both Naomi Wright (as France’s sister) and Patti Allan (as their mother, Raymonde) are nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

The two-tiered modern design of this show was well-regarded by the jurors with David Roberts nominated for Outstanding Set Design, Itai Erdal for his candy-coloured Outstanding Lighting Design, and Alessandro Juliani and Meg Roe for their foley-like collage of sounds for Outstanding Sound Design.

“As director and producer of Life Savers,” says Diane Brown, “I am so proud of all our work on this show. The creative and personal integrity invested has been recognized, and this is thrilling. As co-founder and Artistic Director of Ruby Slippers Theatre, there is no better way to celebrate our 20th anniversary!”

Over its first twenty years, Ruby Slippers Theatre productions received 52 Jessie Richardson Theatre nominations. In the previous five years alone, we have garnered 21 nominations and 10 awards.

Ruby Slippers Theatre has flung open the door to many theatrical adventures over our twenty years. A scroll through the shows that Ruby Slippers Theatre has produced, created, presented or co-produced illuminates a sanguine spirit that has made countless contributions to the vibrant theatre scene we now experience in Vancouver.
